Big lots, full sun, and every deer in Truckee
Glenshire is where we do the most actual landscaping rather than clearing. The lots are large, a lot of them are open and sunny rather than buried in forest, and there is room to build something. The constraint here is not fire so much as it is browse: the deer pressure through this neighborhood is the heaviest we deal with.
What Glenshire does to a landscape
- Open sunny lots, so plants that scorch at altitude have nowhere to hide
- The heaviest deer browse in our service area, which rules out most of a nursery
- Larger parcels mean zone 2 out to a hundred feet is actually achievable
- Wells on some parcels, which changes what an irrigation plan can assume
We will not plant it if the deer will eat it
There is a short list of things that reliably survive Glenshire deer, and it does not include most of what looks good at the nursery. We would rather have the disappointing conversation in the design phase than replace a bed at our own cost in August, which is the alternative.

★★★★★
Design & Build“Third try at this bed. The first two landscapers planted things the deer ate by August. Three years in, this one is still there.”
★★★★★
Irrigation“Previous system cracked its first winter because nobody thought about draining it. This one has been fine for five.”
★★★★★
Defensible Space“I asked three companies for defensible space photos by zone. They were the only one who said yes without hesitating.”
Photographed, zone by zone, for your insurer
Every defensible space job gets photographed before and after in each zone, with the work listed against the requirement it satisfies. You get that packet as a PDF. When your carrier asks for proof, you send it instead of scheduling another inspection.
